This Week, for Plant Tip Tuesday...
Have you heard of Lithops?
These unique succulents get their common name, “Living Stones”, from the pebble-like appearance of their modified leaves… but to us they a lot like cute little butts!
Lithops are a go-to recommendation for a plant that will remain small: they grow slowly, and typically never have more than two leaves at a time. For new leaves to emerge, the old ones will die. The plant absorbs the nutrients from the dying foliage and eventually a new pair of leaves make their way through the fissure of the old ones. Lithops require little to no fertilizer, nor regular repotting; instead, you can freshen up the topsoil 2-4 times a year.
These plants can tolerate a bright light and because of their fine root systems and excellent ability to store moisture in their foliage, they require minimal watering. It’s best to wait for their soil to dry out completely, then, while avoiding getting water on the foliage, give only a tiny drink.
This is a fun, easy-to-care-for, plant to try!
