This week, for Plant Tip Tuesday...
We’re featuring the Staghorn Fern!
These are epiphytic plants, which means they grow off of other plants or objects in the wild, without causing harm.
Staghorn fern produce two types of leaves: tall tomentose foliage that might remind you of deer or elk, called “antler fronds” and flat “shield fronds” that cover and protect the root system.
Because of the unique way these ferns grow, they not only can be kept as traditional potted plants, but they can also be mounted or hung in a sphagnum moss mix as a space saving, and extra interesting way to display your plants!
Staghorn Ferns love warm and humid environments, so get your spray bottle out! They grow best in bright filtered light, appreciate consistently moist soil, and require light fertilizing.
